castle features
Oct. 28th, 2015 03:51 amThe Throne Room:
Three thrones, precisely alike rest in the center of this room. They’re all made of gold and the seats are finest silk, but they’re filthy with dust and spiderwebs. Any noise made in its walls make an eerie echo.
The Secret Lake:
A massive lake hidden beneath the castle. It’s covered in lilypads, and there are carvings of exactly a dozen dancing couples in the walls of the tunnels that lead there.
The Towers:
Just like most of the castle, the doors usually lead to wherever they please--bedrooms, faraway parts of the castle, wherever--but sometimes they lead to an empty room that looks like it belongs there, an old tower bedroom, filled with books and art supplies. Anyone who tries to occupy it permanently will find themselves thrown out into the courtyard.
The Graveyard:
There are several plots behind the castle, where only shade finds. The names and dates on the gravestones have worn away. The pathway through it is, bizarrely, littered with the bones of birds.
The Ballroom:
Massive, grand, everything you’d expect a ballroom to be. There’s always food, too, though only desserts--and if one has odd fortune, they might crack their teeth on jewelry hidden inside a bit of cake.
Candy Room:
Everything in this room is made of candy, from floor to ceiling, all perfectly edible. It also has a cage hidden in the corner under a tarp. There are burnt bones apparently discarded inside it.
Aviary:
One of the towers is filled with a massive tree, floor to roof, with hundreds of different types of birds perching on the branches. Most are friendly. Usually, a few of them are singing a disturbing song about being killed and eaten by their mothers.
The Courtyard and The Hill:
The middle of the castle is filled with gardens and fountains and winding paths--but the most distinct feature is a massive glass hill in the center of it, impossible to climb. There doesn't seem to be anything at the top...
The Edge:
The edge of the floating island. The only thing beyond it is clouds. Anybody who flies away will find themselves going over the castle again and again; anyone who jumps will eventually die and wake up back in the courtyard.
Also from The Edge comes clouds, streaming in right through the windows and open doors, making things hard to see. Most of the castle is still warm despite the altitude and winds, however; it must be magic.
The Trophy(?) Room
There's a door with a carving of a jack-o-lantern on it, ever-shifting through the castle, never in the same place twice--or with the same face twice. The room behind it is filled with jewelry resting upon racks and stands with unreadably tarnished name-plates. Any being to wander in will have a near-irresistible urge to put something on--but if they do, the being will be changed for a while, ranging anywhere from changing their hair color to transforming into an animal.
